Are Rebound Dates A Good Idea?
Have you ever heard of rebound dates? This kind of date happens when you go out with a person, not because you like him or her but, because you need someone to help you forget about a past love or relationship.
People also go on rebound dates because they’re out of practice – they haven’t had a date in a while, so a rebound date is their way of exercising their dating muscles. The word “rebound” means “to bounce back” and that’s exactly what the purpose of this kind of date is.
The Essentials Of Rebound Dates
Going on a rebound date sounds very useful to you, but, to most, it is a bad idea because it’s like you’re using another person just to make yourself feel better. If the other person doesn’t know that he or she will go on a rebound date with you, the previous sentence does have a point. But, here’s what you can do so it won’t be like you’re taking advantage of the person you’re asking out:
Find Someone You Can Trust
“Dating” a friend can be very helpful when it comes to this situation. You can ask your friend whether he or she is comfortable with “dating” you. Explain that the date will be like practice for you so you can be ready for your next date.
You’re more likely to get a “yes” when you’re asking a friend, and doing so will save you the embarrassment of having to ask other people to be your rebound date. Other people may think of you as sorry and pathetic, but your friend will most likely understand.
Also, going on a date with a friend definitely will not end in rejection, so you don’t have to worry about that either. Both of you are going out so you can practice, there is no attraction involved.
Treat It Like A Real Date
Do everything just like how you would when you’re on a real date. Whatever you plan on doing, just remember that one of your goals is to exercise your dating muscles and bounce back into the dating scene. That’s why it’s important to treat the whole thing as though it were real – so you can practice.
Rebound dates actually prepare you for your next “real” date. You’re going to be rusty when you haven’t been in the dating scene for a while, but that’s one of the reasons why you’re going on a rebound date in the first place.
So, this kind of date isn’t as bad as people think it is as long as the person you’re dating knows what the deal is and that person agrees to it. It’s up to you to decide whether it is a good idea or not.
