Knowing This Difference Between Love And Desire Will Save You

Most things are so complicated when it comes to love and desire. We may feel like they’re both of the same things, but this is where we are mistaken. Love is totally different from desire. Both can exist in a loving relationship, but only desire is present when it comes to short-term ones.

How To Differentiate Love And Desire

In our relationships, or in our pursuit of a good match for ourselves, we need to be aware of what we’re feeling. Is it indeed love, or just a primal desire for the person? To tell the two apart, we need to watch out for signs:

Contentment

You know that it is true love when you do not feel the need to boast about your relationship to your friends, family, or social media. You are content with having the person by your side and you don’t need to prove anything to anyone.

Ups & Downs

Real relationships have ups and downs. It’s not always going to be “up” or happy all the time. You’re going to have arguments or disagreements, and you can’t just evade those. Desire, on the other hand, is always going to be a high. When that high is gone, there will be nothing left.

Appearance

When it comes to appearances, desire always wants to be the best. A person who only has desire in their heart will prioritize their partner’s physical traits and will be disappointed when their partner doesn’t look his or her best all the time. A real relationship cares about appearance too, but not as much.

Growth

Growth is probably one of the major signs that differentiate love and desire. When you are in a loving relationship, you grow as a person, and you grow as a couple. With a relationship that’s only filled with desire, there’s really nothing beyond the physical. You don’t grow with this type of relationship.

We need to know what the difference is so that we know what we want or what we’re getting when we are in a relationship. For more tips, make sure you check out other posts on the blog.
