This Is How You Deal With Your Partner’s Silent Treatment

Among all the people you have dated, how many have given you the silent treatment? Probably there were a lot because the majority of us resort to not saying anything at all when we are mad or when we are upset about something. How have you dealt with your partner’s silent treatment? Do you just stay quiet yourself?

Do Not Give Into The Silent Treatment

Do you know what happens to a relationship when one person always resorts to staying quiet during or after an argument? Things get swept under a rug and it is never good. As a result, it makes the relationship stale because the two people in it no longer feel the spark or passion they once had at the beginning of dating. All they have is contempt for each other. So what can one do?

1. Name The Experience

First, you have to make sure that you’re not going to do the silent treatment yourself. If you notice that you have, the best way to go about it would be to name what you’re going through. For example, tell your partner, “I know that I haven’t been talking to you lately.” Or, if it’s your partner who’s maintaining silence, you could say, “I noticed that you aren’t responding to me much.”

2. Acknowledge And Share

You have to validate what your partner may be feeling. You may not realize it, but validation is one of the most important needs we have. When you do this, you’re acknowledging your partner’s feelings, allowing him or her to feel that we understand what they are feeling.

3. To Deal With The Silent Treatment, Focus On What’s Next

What do you think is next in your relationship? Vocalize it and make sure that your partner understands that you want to move forward with a solution that both you and her are happy with.

As you are seeing new people, you have to condition your mind about the silent treatment. Move away from using this tactic because your relationship will not last when you do. For more updates, read other posts on the blog.
